Inert Gas

INERT-SIEX™ clean agent systems are made up of gases found in the atmosphere, and so are completely environmentally friendly. They work by totally flooding the room, reducing the oxygen necessary for combustion, but ensuring adequate oxygen concentrations for use in occupied areas.

They can work at pressures of up to 300 bar, with the associated savings in installation cost. We also have 200 bar systems, depending on the volume / concentration needs. Thanks to the use of calibrated restrictors which reduce the pressure, standard weight piping can be used. This equipment is specially designed for installations with long pipe runs.

As is the case with our SIEX-HC™ systems, INERT-SIEX™ systems use the full range of extinguishing agents. This makes it easier to adjust the design fully to the needs of our customers. The cylinders may contain: Argon (IG-01), 50% argon and 50% nitrogen (IG-55), nitrogen (IG-100) and 52% Nitrogen + 40% Argon + 8% CO₂ (IG-541). The different characteristics of the spaces to be protected are analyzed in detail by our technicians to advise you on the most suitable type of extinguishing system and agent.

Products

IG-541

INERT-SIEX™ 541 combines the extinguishing agents of Argon, Nitrogen and CO₂ to ensure fire suppression with unique features. They fight the fire by reducing the oxygen in the room, always at a concentration suitable for allowing for the evacuation of personnel. In addition, the low percentage of CO₂ included in the mixture is suitable for use in occupied areas. This feature distinguishes it from the rest of the inert gas systems, making it one of the most popular options for our customers.

The system operates by total flooding of the room, ensuring discharge in less than 1 minute. It is suitable for class A, B and C hazards. SIEX has two types of systems depending on the storage pressure: INERT-SIEX™ 541 at 200 bar and INERT-SIEX™ 541 at 300 bar, in this way adapting the quantity of the necessary extinguishing agent, to the available storage space for the cylinders.

300 bar
The cylinder sizes for this pressure are 80 and 140 liters and are manufactured under CE standards and the 2010/35/EU directives for transportable pressure equipment. Constructed in seamless, heat-treated alloy steel for a working pressure of 300 bar and a test pressure of 450 bar. The RGS-MAM-12-2 valves are constructed using brass forged according to the DIN 17672 standard. For any working pressure, a nanometre (nm) control may be incorporated (of up to 300 or 400 bar depending on the system).

200 bar
Cylinders sizes include 67, 80 and 140 liters and are manufactured according to CE standards and the 2010/35/EU directives for transportable pressure equipment. IG-55

INERT-SIEX™ 55 is one of the most popular fire extinguishing systems due to the extinguishing efficiency of its mixture of agents. It is suitable for protecting hazards when there may be people in the enclosure at the time of fire. It enables a safe evacuation, both in terms of the level of oxygen in the room and the visibility required for the evacuation of personnel, as well as ensuring the absence of chemicals in the discharge.

This agent reduces the oxygen concentration to extinguish the fire, but to a percentage suitable for occupied areas. The 50-50 mixture of Argon and Nitrogen allows the perfect distribution of the agent in the room for effective extinguishment.

It is highly recommended for class A, B and C hazards. The system operates by total flooding of the room, ensuring complete discharge in less than 1 minute.

SIEX has two variants depending on the storage pressure: INERT-SIEX™ 55 at 200 bar and INERT-SIEX™ 55 at 300 bar; this makes it possible to adapt the quantity of extinguishing agent required, to the storage space available for the cylinders. The system is optimized for the worst case conditions, all components are certified to ensure the strictest performance. These are necessary for the storage, detection, release and discharge of the agent at the right moment.

Products

IG-100

INERT-SIEX™ 100 uses Nitrogen for a clean, safe and 100% ecological extinguishment. This gas is widely used in a variety of extinguishing systems due to its excellent pressurization conditions.

In this case it complies with equal smothering efficiency by reducing the oxygen concentration to extinguish the fire, while leaving a percentage of oxygen suitable for occupied areas. Due to this feature, hazards can be protected where there is the possibility that people will be in the enclosure at the time of the fire, ensuring their safe evacuation both in terms of the level of oxygen in the room, and the absence of chemicals in the discharge. In addition, its physical and dispersion properties help maintain visibility during the evacuation.

It is highly recommended for class A, B and C hazards. The system operates by total flooding of the room, ensuring discharge in less than 1 minute with the safety conditions mentioned above. SIEX has two variants depending on the storage pressure: INERT-SIEX™ 100 at 200 bar and INERT-SIEX™ 100 at 300 bar; this makes it possible to adapt the quantity of extinguishing agent required, to the storage space available for the cylinders.

The system is optimized for the worst case conditions, all components are certified to ensure the strictest performance. These are necessary for the storage, detection, release and discharge of the agent at the right moment.

Panel Protection System

Electrical panel rooms house the electrical and automation systems for factories, businesses and large retail centres. It is one of the key areas for companies’ production.

Electricity is a major fire hazard. A simple short circuit can cause large fires if it is not controlled in time. Uninterrupted protection must be ensured since a fire here would mean the failure of all systems, resulting in dramatic consequences. Without an adequate fire protection system in place, a fire could spread quickly to other areas and increase damages exponentially.

The following considerations for protection must be taken into account:

  • Extinction by total flooding
  • Possibility of backup systems depending on the protocol
  • Ability to protect several independent spaces

CO2 Flooding System

CO₂ is most likely the gaseous extinguishing agent that has the greatest number of installations worldwide. Its accumulated experience facilitates the engineering of a huge number of applications which have become standard, such as electrical generators, transformer stations, etc.

Its low cost and worldwide availability make CO₂ the leading product in many applications, including the marine sector. Full scale tests can be carried out, refilling is immediate and inexpensive. Its versatility makes it suitable for use in total flooding applications and for local application, including fixed hose stations.

This system is unique. It is different from other fixed gaseous agent systems because it allows local application. It is very useful when it comes to protecting larger rooms, rooms with openings and rooms containing personnel. The discharge is designed to be applied directly over the hazard being protected. The nozzles are installed directly over the equipment.

The amount of agent is calculated according to the size of the hazard. Its extinguishing mechanisms are due to the reduction of the oxygen concentration to below 15% and the cooling and absorption of the heat from the flame. This agent is intended for normally unoccupied areas. Certain precautions must be taken when it is used in normally occupied areas.

DCP Powder System

Dry chemical fire fighting systems developed by SIEX are used to extinguish fires in special hazards requiring large quantities of this extinguishing agent, such as class A, B, C, K and D fires or hazards in open spaces (local application).

They can also be used in fires affecting certain types of electrical equipment such as turbine generators and transformers. Dry chemical rarely needs the help of water to extinguish a fire with Class A materials, although it is not effective for extensive Class A fires.

These systems can be designed for both a local application and total flooding of the protected area.

The main commodities used in the production of dry powder are: sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, urea-potassium bicarbonate and mono ammonium phosphate. These products are mixed with various additives to improve their storage, yield and water repellency features. The most commonly used additives are: metal stearates, tricalcium phosphate and silicone covering the dry powder particles to confer fluidity and resistance to the effects of moisture and vibration.
